Plan for 2009 - 2010

Gap Analysis
The only major gap we have at this time is an outdated computer lab. In order to bring the lab up to standard we will be purchasing new machines. Following the purchase of these machines, the committee will meet again and review new software and materials needed to keep our school at the cutting edge and discuss ongoing technology training for teachers, students and parents.

The following materials will be purchased.

Timeline
Upgrading the computer lab will begin in the new school year. Orders will be placed in September. The machines will arrive within 2 weeks. The technical department will set up the new machines and load needed software, which will take another two weeks. The lab should be ready to use by mid November 2009.

New tech plan

Our school is going to be renovated this summer. At the same time our wiring and some of our technology will be upgraded. We will have we will be getting new servers, wires, and a new security system. Activ-boards will be added to the few rooms that do not have one and projectors will be mounted on the ceiling in every room including the media center.

We will still need to upgrade our computer lab but we are working on that now! Its going to be great!

Tons of changes in the media center. Miss Jo and I are getting ready for the renovation next year. We moved books, changed the layout and are ready for you to come check out books. We have added new books and new AR tests.

Parents, we have greatly extended our parent section. Need ideas to help your children with home work? Check out this area. Plenty of help is available.

Come visit our book fair this week!! We are selling 1G jump drives for our students who need to work on their microsoft office projects at home, in the lab and in the classroom. They are becoming as necessary as cell phones and book bags! Get one while they last.

Kudos to Michael Finklea who came to DGE and scared us silly .... then laughed us even sillier!!! The children -- from PreK to teacher -- were enthralled with his talk. If you need a personable, funny, genuine storyteller to come to your school, be sure to think of Michael!

One day I looked up and....

.... there was a cow walking by my window! The things I see.

We are winding things up for the holidays. Our Christmas play was a fabulous success. Our Christmas tree is full of wonderful handmade ornaments. Kids are all thrilled to death. Teachers are smiling as much as they can.

What a busy hallway its been this past few days!

The annual pumpkin painting contest was held the last week in October. We have such a talented artistic group of kids and parents!

And the Veteran's Day festivities. Ms. Pulliam put up flags from every branch of the service and we listed all the veterans (active and inactive) attached to our school. The veterans who came to have lunch with us were very moved as was the entire staff when we gathered around the flagpole for a moment of silence.

Its been a busy time in front of this window on DGE this week! I saw Mr. Ethridge's 4th grade classes measuring the distance between the planets. 1 step was equal to 33 MILLION miles! They started with the Sun at the front door and Pluto was at the end of the longest hall in the school outside! Amazing!

I also saw Mrs. Erwin's second grade class do a wonderful performance of the "Ants and the grasshopper". They performed for Mrs. Gowan's 2nd grade, Mrs. Moore's 3rd grade, Mrs. Betsy's PreK and Ms. Morehouse's Kindergarten

How great it is to have a window with a view to such wonderful goings on!

Hello, and welcome to the first blog I have ever done. I decided to do this to share what I see through the window in front of my desk. For those of you who have never been here, my window looks out on the main lobby of Dug Gap Elementary School.

I see some pretty great things. Like last week when I looked up and saw and very tall granddaddy walking through the lobby holding the hand of his tiny kindergarten aged grand daughter. The fun part was the pink purse over grandpa's arm!

Dug Gap is such a great school. Lots of things make me smile sitting in this window. I am so glad to be able to share this incredible school with the world.
